We Got Married! Exploring Mammoth, the Eastern Sierra & Lake Tahoe
An Eastern Sierra Adventure
Listen to Episode #121
This adventure was a little different from the usual Anderson Overland trip — we got married!
In Episode #121 of the Anderson Overland Podcast, we're talking about our trip through Mammoth, California, the Eastern Sierra, and Lake Tahoe, combining an incredible road trip with one of the biggest moments of our lives.
From exploring the Eastern Sierra and getting off the pavement to experiencing Mammoth and continuing north toward Lake Tahoe, this episode is about adventure, travel, relationships, and creating memories in some of California's most incredible mountain landscapes.
Exploring California's Eastern Sierra
California's Eastern Sierra is one of our favorite places for vehicle-based adventure and road trips.
The combination of towering Sierra Nevada peaks, high-desert terrain, mountain lakes, small towns, backroads, camping opportunities, and incredible scenery makes this region feel like it was made for exploring.
Whether you're traveling in an overland vehicle, camping for several days, or simply taking a road trip along Highway 395, the Eastern Sierra offers seemingly endless opportunities to get outside and experience a different side of California.
Overlanding and Exploring Mammoth Lakes
Mammoth Lakes is surrounded by some of the most recognizable mountain scenery in California and provides an incredible base for outdoor adventure.
The area offers access to mountain roads, lakes, hiking, camping, fishing, scenic drives, and opportunities to explore beyond the pavement.
For us, Mammoth has become more than just another destination. It's the kind of place that makes you want to slow down, explore another road, stay another night, and start planning the next trip before you've even left.
Road Tripping Highway 395
Highway 395 is one of California's great adventure road-trip routes.
Running along the eastern side of the Sierra Nevada, the highway provides access to mountain communities, lakes, historic locations, hot springs, hiking areas, camping, and countless opportunities to leave the pavement and explore.
The journey itself is a huge part of the experience. That's one of the things we love most about overlanding — sometimes the roads between destinations become just as memorable as the places you were originally trying to reach.
We Got Married!
This trip also became one we'll never forget for another reason: we got married.
Combining our wedding with an adventure through a place we love made the entire experience feel true to who we are. Instead of separating travel and adventure from the biggest moments in life, we brought them together.
It was an opportunity to celebrate a new chapter while continuing to do something that has always brought us together — exploring.
Continuing the Adventure to Lake Tahoe
From the Eastern Sierra, the adventure continued north toward Lake Tahoe.
Surrounded by the Sierra Nevada, Lake Tahoe is an iconic destination for road trips and outdoor recreation, with mountain scenery, beaches, trails, camping, and scenic drives throughout the surrounding region.
Connecting Mammoth, the Eastern Sierra, and Lake Tahoe creates an incredible California road trip with dramatically changing landscapes and countless opportunities to stop and explore along the way.
